South Island and Kaikoura / Die Südinsel und Kaikoura

Rain in Wellington – sunshine in Picton – it seems I had the right timing for my trip. On the way to Kaikoura I stopped at „The Store“ in Kekerengu – a café with magnificent views and excellent food that is just as fabulous as on my first visit 11 years ago. Highly recommendable! The sunshine went with me to Kaikoura – it is so beautiful it is almost unreal with the snowcapped mountains reaching out to the sea. I did go out on a whale watch tour and we were lucky to meet a huge sperm whale who gave an excellent performance for us photographers 🙂
Regen in Wellington – Sonnenschein in Picton – anscheinend hatte ich ein gutes Timing für meine Reise. Auf dem Weg nach Kaikoura hielt ich in „The Store“ in Kekerengu – einem Café mit großartigem Ausblick und exzellentem Essen, das noch genauso ausgezeichnet ist wie bei meinem ersten Besuch vor 11 Jahren. Sehr empfehlenswert! Der Sonnenschein kam mit mir nach Kaikoura – es ist so wunderschön, es ist beinahe unwirklich mit den schneebedeckten Bergen, die bis zum Ozean reichen. Eine Whale Watch Tour habe ich auch mitgemacht und wir hatten das Glück, einen großen Pottwal zu treffen, der für uns Photographen einen Bilderbuchauftritt hingelegt hat 🙂

Wellington – Weta Cave

As a fan of The Lord of the Rings I had to visit the Weta Cave. It was great fun and VERY impressive! Such creativity, passion and dedication is very inspiring! It must be awesome to work there and be part of this „magical“ storyteller team! / Als Fan von Der Herr der Ringe musste ich die Weta Cave besuchen. Es war ein großer Spaß und SEHR eindrucksvoll! Solche Kreativität, Leidenschaft und Hingabe ist sehr inspirierend! Es muss phantastisch sein dort zu arbeiten und Teil dieses „magischen“ Teams von Geschichtenerzählern zu sein!

Birdwoods Café

On the way to Wellington I stopped at Birdwoods Gallery and Café close to Havelock North. What a wonderful place! Beauty and taste wherever you look – be it the gallery, the café, the sweets shop or the garden. A treat for eyes, heart and taste buds!
Auf dem Weg nach Wellington machte ich Halt im Birdwoods Café und Galerie nah bei Havelock North. Was für ein wundervoller Ort! Schönheit und Geschmack wo auch immer man hinsieht – sei es die Galerie, das Café, der Süssigkeitenladen oder der Garten. Ein Schmankerl für die Augen, das Herz und die Geschmacksknospen!

Napier

Napier is called the Art Deco Capital of NZ as it was rebuilt in this style after a desastrous earthquake. It is a beautiful place with its own feel. /
Napier wird die Jugendstil Hauptstadt von Neuseeland genannt, da es nach einem schweren Erdbeben in diesem Stil wiederaufgebaut wurde. Es ist ein wunderschönes Städtchen mit einem ganz eigenen Gefühl.

Yin Yoga in Napier

Sometimes it feels like magic when you are travelling and meet people who tell you something you need to hear or who touch you and change something in your life. I have had moments like this on my journey. Just recently a very kind lady offered me shelter in her car as I was standing under a tree during a rain shower. We found we had some things in common and she gave me new inspiration. Another time I made the acquaintance of some ladies in a cafe and learned about Yin Yoga. Some bell inside me rang. On my stop in Napier I attended several classes at ˋYin Yoga Napierˋ. Carol was a wonderful guide through my first ever Yoga experience. It was amazing and just what I needed – letting go of tensions. Thank you, Jen and thank you, Carol! You really made a difference for me!
Manchmal fühlt es sich wie Magie an, wenn du auf Reisen Leute triffst, die dir etwas sagen, dass für dich wichtig ist oder die dich berühren und etwas in deinem Leben verändern. Ich hatte solche Momente auf meiner Reise. Gerade vor kurzem bot mir eine sehr nette Lady Schutz in ihrem Auto an als ich während eines Regenschauers unter einem Baum stand. Es ergab sich, dass wir Einiges gemeinsam haben und sie hat mich neu inspiriert. Ein anderes Mal lernte ich in einem Café einige Ladies kennen und hörte von Yin Yoga. Etwas in mir schlug an. In Napier habe ich dann einige Male Kurse besucht bei ˋYin Yoga Napierˋ. Carol war eine wunderbare Führerin durch meine erste Yoga Erfahrung. Es war erstaunlich und genau was ich brauchte – Loslassen von Spannungen. Danke, Jen und danke, Carol! Ihr habt wirklich etwas für mich verändert!

Cape Kidnappers with Gannets / …mit Tölpeln

Made a tour with a tractor on the beach to Cape Kidnappers where you can find Gannet colonies. They are so accustomed to visitors that they do not care at all and come so close flying to their nests that I was ready to duck away several times. Amazing birds – right now is their time for nest building and mating. / Ich habe eine Traktor-Tour auf dem Strand zum Cape Kidnappers gemacht, wo man Tölpel-Kolonien findet. Diese sind so an Besucher gewöhnt, dass sie sich daran gar nicht stören und auf dem Flug zum Nest oft so nah kommen, dass ich mehrere Male bereit zum Wegducken war. Wundervolle Vögel – gerade jetzt ist ihre Zeit zum Nestbau und Paaren.

Waimangu Valley in Rotorua

Rotorua has many volcanic areas of outstanding beauty. They are all fascinating and worth a visit. I decided for Waimangu Valley this time. A volcanic eruption of Mt. Tarawera in the late 1900ˋs destroyed all the vegetation and changed the valley and the connected lake completely. Since then nature has been recovering and it has a magic of its own.
Rotorua hat viele vulkanische Gebiete von herausragender Schönheit. Sie sind alle faszinierend und einen Besuch wert. Ich entschied mich diesmal für Waimangu Valley. Ein Vulkanausbruch von Mt. Tarawera im späten 19. Jht zerstörte die gesamte Vegetation und veränderte das Tal und den anschließenden See vollkommen. Seitdem erholt sich die Natur und sie hat eine ganz eigene Magie.
