Hai, hallo – tut mir leid, aber es ist draussen viel zu schön, um die Zeit mit dem Computer zu verbringen 🙂 Ich bin jetzt auf Vancouver Island und strolche durch die Regenwälder, die Strände, den Ozean um Wale, Seelöwen, Seeotter, Delphine und Adler und … zu treffen. Ich schreibe weiter bei schlechtem Wetter – sorry! 🙂

After some stress (there are no early trains in London on a sunday – though the internet says something else) and a long flight I arrived in Vancouver, Canada on a wet grey day – not the best first impression. But on Monday it got better and I think I like it here now 😉

Nach einigem Stress (frühmorgens fahren keine Züge an einem Sonntag in London – obwohl das Internet etwas anderes sagt) und einem langen Flug bin ich in Vancouver gelandet, an einem nassen, grauen Tag – nicht der beste erste Eindruck. Aber am Montag wurde es besser und ich glaube jetzt, ich mag es hier 😉

Along the way I found some things that I find quite unique in England. On the one hand it is the great variety of signs to protect someone.
Auf meinem Weg sind mir einige Dinge begegnet, die ich in England einzigartig finde. Auf der einen Seite ist es die große Vielfalt an Schildern, die jemanden schützen sollen.

And then there is this amazing infrastructure of walkways, public footpaths and bridleways that are a joy for walkers in this beautiful nature!
Und dann gibt es da die phantastische Infrastruktur von Wanderwegen, die eine Freude sind für alle Wanderer in dieser schönen Natur!

Last stop in England: London – on a long weekend in the sunshine – each single Londoner + thousands of tourists must have been out in the streets. Quite a shock for me after 4 weeks of English countryside 🙂 Spent the day with sightseeing and walking through the streets and had a wonderful evening at Covent Garden with the musicians and street artists – fabulous atmosphere there!

Letzter Halt in England: London – an einem langen sonnigen Wochenende – jeder einzelne Einwohner + Tausende Touristen muss draussen in den Straßen unterwegs gewesen sein – ein ziemlicher Schock für mich nach  4 Wochen englischen Landlebens 🙂 Verbrachte den Tag mit Sightseeing und Bummeln durch die Stadt und hatte einen wundervollen Abend im Covent Garden mit den Musikern und Straßenkünstlern dort – es war eine phantastische Stimmung dort!

Beautiful wild landscapes and green meadows, impressive ruins – often of former Abbeys – working steam railways with stations so beautifully preserved it really feels like stepping back in time (yes, you guys at Siemens – I am slowing down :-), the old smugglersˋ village of Robin Hoodˋs Bay and historic York with legendary Bettyˋs Tearooms – I had a lot to do and I loved it.
Wunderschöne wilde Landschaften und grüne Wiesen, beeindruckende Ruinen – oft von früheren Abteien – Dampfeisenbahnen mit so liebevoll erhaltenen Bahnhöfen, dass es sich wirklich wie eine Zeitreise anfühlt (ja, liebe Siemens-Ex-Kollegen, ich fahre das Tempo runter ;-), das alte Schmuggler Dorf Robin Hoodˋs Bay und das historische York mit den legendären Bettyˋs Tearooms – ich hatte eine Menge zu tun und ich habe es geliebt.

Bettyˋs – a real treat and tastes as fabulous as it looks!

The favourite place for many British – now I know why. Mountains and meadows and lakes inbetween build an enchanting landscape. I made it on „The Old Man of Coniston“, sailed on Lake Coniston and Ullswater, made a lot of walks, had the first flat tyre of my driving career (thanks to my personal hero Terry who helped me change the wheel in the middle of nowhere!) and rode on a 17,2 hh Clydesdale horse (you need stairs to get up there 😉 – I had a fabulous time!
Die Lieblingsgegend vieler Briten – jetzt weiss ich, wieso. Berge, Wiesen und Seen dazwischen bilden eine bezaubernde Landschaft. Ich habe es auf den „Old Man of Coniston“ geschafft, bin mit Schiffen auf dem Lake Coniston und Ullswater unterwegs gewesen, war viel Wandern, hatte den ersten platten Reifen meiner Autofahrerkarriere (tausend Dank an meinen persönlichen Helden Terry, der mir mitten im Nirgendwo beim Reifenwechseln half!) und bin auf einem Riesenpferd (Clydesdale, die Größe muss ich erst umrechnen, ich kam jedenfalls nur mit Trittleiter drauf 🙂 geritten – ich hatte eine tolle Zeit!

And there was another surprise for me: in the middle of a rainy afternoon in the west of England I met a taste of Hawaii!!!
Und eine weitere Überraschung erwartete mich: inmitten eines verregneten Nachmittags im Westen Englands bekam ich einen Vorgeschmack auf Hawaii!!!

Mein Glück mit der Sonne hielt an. Die Gegend an der Grenze zu Schottland war immer heiss umkämpft – so dass es hier sehr stattliche Burgen zu sehen gibt. Bamburgh Castle, die Ruine von Dunstanburgh Castle – Holy Island mit Lindisfarne Castle (nur bei Ebbe zu erreichen) – so schön hatte ich es mir gar nicht vorgestellt!

The sun stayed with me. This area close to the Scottish Borders used to be a place of conflict – that led to the building of strong castles to be admired today. Bamburgh Castle, the ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle – Holy Island with Lindisfarne Castle (only during low tide) – it is more beautiful than I imagined!

Mehrere liebe Leute empfahlen mir Edinburgh, ich würde es lieben – sie lagen richtig, ich bin verliebt. Edinburgh im Sonnenschein, die Straßen voller gut gelaunter Menschen – Geschichte, Kultur und Lebensfreude zum Eintauchen – ich bin schwer beeindruckt!

Several kind persons recommended to visit Edinburgh – I would love it there. They were right – I am in love. Edinburgh in the sun, the streets full of happy people – history, culture and pure joy of life to indulge in. I am very impressed!
